Invitation to Conduct a Research Project

Energized learning through movement–– movement-based learning, has been around since the beginning of time. Parents, teachers and therapists have intuitively known that children need to move in order to learn. This is the way nature has set up our neurological system. From the time we are a thought in our parents mind/heart movement is present. Conception begins and the baby begins to grow. This growth happens through movement and it “grows” the brain as well as all the other systems in the body. Research shows that during the first 24 months of life, 80% of a child’s brain mass is developed, 90% by age three; and most of what babies do during this time period is practice moving.

So, as our society has become more hungry for scientific data to support our intuitive knowledge, we have turned much of our focus to empirically based research. Whether this is a positive direction or one that needs to be blended with our intuitive nature remains unanswered. At this point in time, Cecilia is requesting that we engage in some empirically-based research. There are numerous studies that have already been completed regarding the topic of how movement “grows” the brain. (See links.) However, this educator/author would like to engage in some specific research that will speak directly to the methods and techniques developed in the Movement Based Learning curriculum. If you are a student in university or a teacher, therapist or homeschooling parent, you are invited to participate in a study designed by Cecilia. Briefly, this endeavor will afford you monthly contact with her as you conduct the established protocol. The intention is to end with a study that you (or we) will author (or co-author) and publish in a professional journal of your choice.
